Electrical and Electronics engineers have no doubt been the instruments for the evolution of technology by being able to effectively apply and integrate fundamental concepts and knowledge from various related disciplines. They lead in creating new ideas and innovations, and designing and developing new products.
Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS), School of Engineering & Technology offers an undergraduate programme - B. Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering adopts Outcome Based Education (OBE) which abreast the theoretical concepts and domain oriented practical skills for the aspirants. In this programme, the aspirants can experience a smooth transition from academic to real-life work environment with the strong zeal to develop and enhance the critical, innovative, creative thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills make the aspirants to conceptualize, analyze, design and develop solutions to meet the demands of modern power scenario.
The curriculum comprises of five components – Humanities and Social Sciences including Management courses; Basic Sciences, Engineering Science; Professional Core, Professional electives and Other electives.
Humanities and Social Sciences including Management courses:These courses complement the technical education through a wide array of modules in humanities, social sciences, philosophy and professionalism to make our graduates, educated members of the global community.
Basic Science: Basic Science courses are pivotal for engineering education. These subjects taught in the first-year help in better understanding and application of their respective streams.
Engineering Science: Engineering Science courses brings together the study of branches of engineering.
Professional Core: Professional Core provides knowledge and skills essential for electrical engineers. These include laboratory work, Industrial training, mini projects, Individual research and design projects. Professional core modules ensure that each student is exposed to most aspects of the state-of art EEE areas. Courses like Electric Circuit and Networks, Electromagnetic Fields, Electron Devices and Circuits, Electrical Machines I, Electrical Machines II, Power Electronics, Power System I, Power System II, Control System, Signals and Systems, Microprocessor and Microcontrollers and Digital Electronics.

M.Tech. in Renewable Energy
M.Tech. Renewable Energy prepares the students in theoretical and practical aspects of renewable energy technologies and its implementation, energy conservation, and management. Besides that, it also trains students in important areas of energy infrastructure, rational use of energy, energy policies and regulations, and energy-environment interface etc.
Renewable energy is a form of energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat which are renewable (naturally replenished). Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity/micro hydro, biomass and biofuels for transportation.
Both renewable energy and alternate energy sectors are growing rapidly due to the depleting conventional sources and the need of environmentally benign technologies. The branch of renewable energy contributes in promoting a cleaner and greener environment and also helps in addressing critical issue of energy security which is quite relevant in developing countries like India.
Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Renewable Energy is a 2- year long course divided into 4 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of Six months. It is a unique program that provides an in-depth understanding of various fields including solar, wind energy, biogas & bio mass etc. Through this course, the students are introduced to the alternate forms of energy such as OTEC, tidal energy etc. along with the insights on waste heat recovery. The program also touches upon the recent topics as Green Building (sustainable construction) and Smart Grid.
|Solar Energy||Wind Energy||Green Energy||Smart Grid|
|Photovoltaic Systems||Wind Energy||Energy Engineering||Smart Power Grid Renewable Energy Systems|
|Solar Energy Laboratory||Wind Energy Laboratory||Energy Management And Audit||Cyber Physical Systems Approach To Smart Grid|
|Solar Thermal Energy Conversion||Electric Drives Laboratory for Renewable Energy||Power Engineering Simulation Laboratory||Data Mining for Renewable Energy Systems|
|Materials For Solar Power||Grid Converters for Solar and Wind Power Systems||Biomass Energy||Distributed Generation and Micro grid|

Career prospects of M.Tech in Renewable Energy
A renewable energy engineer can become a professional consultant for solar technologies or green energy technology. He knows the potential of free energy that is abundantly available in nature but how we tend to ignore it and increase our dependency on exhaustible fossil fuels and energy sources.
Scope for a master degree holder in renewable energy in coming future is at the peak as we are facing energy crisis at present and every country is dreaming of becoming energy independent nation. Renewable energy is future of our energy needs - we need to think, progress and improvise/develop new technologies to harness renewable energy sources.
As a professional renewable energy personal I would definitely recommend anyone to undertake MTech in renewable energy as it has a very bright future.
