To solve the location specific problems for achieving sustainable water resources management in semi-arid zones, the Institute has been involved in carrying out consultancy projects; a few of those projects are listed below.

The electrochemical laboratory was established with the support of Prof. Yoram Oren of Zukerburg Institute of Water Research of Ben-Gurion University, Israel.

- Technical guidance and support in creating laboratory facilities on electrochemical techniques such as Electrocoagulation, Electrodialysis and Capacitive Deionization in treatment of groundwater, wastewater and drinking water
- Technical Guidance to three Ph.D students and Masters students in Water Institute (Dr. Govindan – Electrocoagulation (2015); Chidambaram - Membrane Technology (2015); Dr. Tamil Selvan – Capacitive Deionization (2016))

Technion University:
- Chidambaram is pursuing his Post-Doctoral Work under Prof. Carlos Dosoretz, Water Institute (2014- till now)
- Denzil, M. Tech Student had taken up his internship under Technion-Summer School in Engineering and Science during July 29 th – August 28 th , 2015.
Joint research work has been initiated in the areas of electrochemical methods, development of antifouling membranes and eco-bioblocks in greywater treatment.
- IGSI (Integrated Urban Development and Co-Production for Indian Cities) is a network of leading German research and planning institutions funded by Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany (Land of Ideas) – strives for knowledge transfer between Germany and India in the field of smart cities. Kaurnya University has entered with theTechnical University of Berlin in smart city initiatives. As a part of IGSI network activities, the UrbanLab (conference and workshop) has been planned to be conducted at Karunya University during December 4-8 th , 2017.
- Joint research activities have been taken up with professors in RWTH, Aachen in the areas of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling and nanoparticles interactions in aqueous media.
Collaboration with Canada (VERCHUREN Centre for Sustainability in Energy and Environment, Cape Breton University):
- Joint research and exchange activities have been initiated in the areas of nano-bioremediaton and water treatment
Collaboration with Water Equipment and Policy, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
- Karunya University has entered into MoA with Water Equipment and Policy, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for joint venture in the area of water treatment.
- Mr. Brett, has taken up his internship in the area of bioremediation for 45 days during July- August 2015.
