Special Programmes:

  • Dengue Awareness Rally at Coimbatore City

Coimbatore, Karunya University NSS Unit consisting of nearly 1000 students along with Coimbatore Corporation organized and executed “Dengue Awareness Rally on 27.08.2016 at 8.30 a.m. held at Coimbatore Corporation South Zone Regional Office located near Women’s Polytechnic, Coimbatore, where the rally kicked off and halted at VOC Park. The rally was inaugurated by Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, IAS., who was the chief guest for the awareness programme. During his address, he told that the aim of this rally is to make students aware about the prevention of Dengue causing mosquito so that they can create an awareness to the society and lay over dengue and its consequences to the maximum. Large banners for dengue awareness were placed in major areas of the city. Vehicle mounted audio amplification system led the rally, where voices for awareness was heard throughout the path.

Deputy Commissioner Ms. Gandhimathi, Chief Health Officer Dr. Santhoshkumar, Govt. health officials and Karunya university faculty participated in the awareness rally.

  • AnbinVirundhu:

Dr. Paul Dhinakaran paid tributes to former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jeyalalithaa on 15 th December 2016 in a meeting at Karunya University. He remembered her valuable helps to the development of Karunya Nagar and Karunya University. People of nearby villages, leaders and Karunya Students were also participated. After the meeting, food offered to more than 3000 nearby village people.

  • A New Day of Hope” – Special Christmas Programme for Labourers of Karunya University.

Karunya Univerity – Centre for Extension Activities along with Seesha (The Samiti for Education, Environment, Social and Health Action) conducted a Special Christmas Programme for Labourers and their family members of Karunya University on 17 th December 2016 at 11 a.m. As a part of the meeting, Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, Chancellor, Karunya University,  distributed new cloths to the children of the labourers. Students of Karunya University performed cultural programmes. Lunch will be served all by students of Karunya University. Dr. JeyakumarDanuel , Trustee and Executive Director – Seesha, Dr. SundarManoharan, Vice Chancellor, Dr. C. Joseph Kennady, Registrar, Mr. Ramamoorthy, Director (Trust), Dr. Karthikeyan and Dr. Manoj were also participated.

  • A Faculty Training Program on “Data Science and Big data analytics” (18 th to 22 nd July 2016) conducted by CEAin association with CST Department . 25 faculty members were participated.
  • Empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions Spatial (EPRIS)

Seminar on “ Asset Mapping at Panchayat Level using Bhuvan – Panchayat Mobile Application” conducted on 27 th July 2016 in association with Water Institute. 25 Students from CEA clubs were participated

  • Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Paul Dhinakaran’s 54 th Birthday Celebrations

The members of Karunya Outreach Club of CEA celebrated our Honourable Chancellor’s Birthday among the inmates of an orphanage in Madhampatti at 6:30 P.M on the 1 st of September 2016. The birthday cake was cut by our respected Vice Chancellor and our beloved Registrar and was distributed to the 40 children that were present there. 25 members of our Karunya team interacted with the children and conducted a Praise and Worship session.  A prayer for the Chancellor’s family and a special dinner was organized for them to show our love and concern towards them.

The Youth Red Cross wing of the Center for Extension Activities (CEA) had arranged a special celebration among the inmates of the SEESHA Old Age Home at 10:30 A.M on 2 nd September 2016. On behalf of our Honorable Chancellor, Dr. M.J. Xavier, Vice Chancellor of Karunya University presented new clothes to the inmates. A special prayer for the Chancellor’s family was also done.

The Nature Club (Solid Waste Management Unit) of CEA had arranged a “Tree Plantation” program near the Department of Biotechnology. Dr. M.J. Xavier, Vice Chancellor of Karunya University inaugurated the initiative and planted saplings along with the students and staff members involved in the program. The club students planted 54 saplings in KU Campus.

National Service Scheme & Community Health Services of CEA organized a Blood Donation Camp” in association with SEESHA and Bethesda on 2 nd September 2016 in Bethesda International Prayer Centre. More than 300 students and staff took part in the initiative and donated 200 units of blood and break the record (170 Units).

Awards:

  1. National Young Leaders Programme – 5 students were selected as “Best NSS Volunteer” and awarded by Ministry of HRD, GoI at New Delhi.
  2. Best Voluntary Blood Donors Award – 200 Units of Blood Donated at a time.
  3. Certificate of Appreciation – NSS – in Gratitude of support of awareness session on “Blood Stem Cell donation for treatment of fatal blood disorders.
  4. 3 NSS Students and one staff participated “Indian Student Parliament” conducted at Pune by MheerUnievsity.
