Farmer's Meet
Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, Agro forestry farmers Producer Company limited,Coimbatore, Sri Avinashilingam KrishiVigyan Kendra, Vivekanandapuram, Coimbatore. Department of Agriculture and Horticulture – Coimbatore District jointly organized one day “Farmers’ meet and Exhibition on “Sustainable Agriculture, Value Addition and Food Safety” at Karunya campus. In this meet, around 250 farmers participated which was inaugurated by Dr.PaulDhinakaran, Chancellor, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences in the presence of Dr.Maheshwaran, Director of Research, TNAU, Coimbatore. Dr.Kumaravadivel, Senior Scientist, KVK and Mr . B.R. Narayana Samy , CEO, Coimbatore Agro Limited, enlightened the value of farming community and the recent developments in the field of agriculture in India. The highlight of the event was the release of KO- 51, a new rice variety to the farmers and Ms. Rangammal, Thekampatty village, Mettupalayam, a veteran agriculturist who is 101 years is still actively involved in agriculture practice was honoured by Dr.PaulDhinakaran, Chancellor, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. A panel discussion by agricultural expertise Mr. Iqbal, Asst. Joint Director of Agriculture, Mr. A. RamaKrishnan, Deputy Director, Mrs. Vasanthi, Asst. Deputy Director Horticulture departments, Mr. Inigo Arul Selvan, Asst General Manager, NABARD, Mr. Kanagaraj , District Lead Bank Manager and Dr.T.VRanganathan, Professor, Food Processing Engineering interacted with the farmers for clarifying their doubts. A special exhibition (TNAU, KSB Pumps, KVK Coimbatore, SPIC, Herbal Medicine and Value added product companies) was arranged for the farmers in which agro companies participated to showcase the recent development in the field of agriculture and engineering. Also the neutraceutical products and biofertilizers developed by Karunya students were also showcased to the farmers.
Agriculture Association (KRISHI) Inauguration
The Agriculture students association of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences named “Krishi” was launched on 9 th September 2017. The Association was inaugurated by Dr. Mahadev B. Chetti, Assistant Director General (HRD) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
