Bachelor of Technology

Well planned curriculum consisting of core and elective courses for better understanding of advanced, higher level topics. The courses have been designed in such a way that students get the necessary depth in the chosen area of specialization while absorbing the necessary back up knowledge so as to maintain the required depth in the general Technological Scenario. Special efforts have been made to enable the students to translate the theoretical knowledge in laboratory & field level experience. The emphasis is on the basic knowledge derived from sciences and their application to the technology employing analytical and numerical techniques and subsequently validated in the laboratories.

You spend the first two years building a solid foundation in mechanical engineering. Specialisation starts from Stage 3, when you read related technical electives as shown below. Master of Technology

The University offers Master of Technology programme in Aerospace Engineering. The aim of the programme is to train the students in deeper theoretical and experimental knowledge which will enable them to tackle practical complex problems of design and development in Aerospace industrial fields, as well as to pursue further academic achievements through research. Enough flexibility is provided in the structure of the programme in respect of lecture courses, laboratory and project work to help the students to achieve the above-mentioned aim. The department is equipped with sufficient facilities for this purpose.

After your Bachelors, if you are interested to learn in more advance about aeroplanes and rocket science, you spend the first year of M.Tech studying in advance the technical electives. In the second year, you select a final-year-project to venture deeper into aerospace field.


Department of Aerospace Engineering offers both full time and part time Ph. D programmes in all major areas of Aerospace Engineering. Ph. D Research activities are carried out in the thrust areas of Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Ascent and Re-entry Heating of Space Vehicles, Hypersonic Flows, High Enthalpy Gas Dynamics, Flight Dynamics, Composites, Aircraft Structural Analysis, Rocket Propulsion, Orbital Dynamics, Collision Avoidance Between Space Objects, Trajectory Optimization for Low Earth, Lunar and Inter Planetary Mission.

The department has eminent faculty from IISc, IITs and leading international universities to guide the research scholars and has excellent research facilities. In addition to generous funding for research by the university, The School of Mechanical Sciences also receives external grants from BARC, DST and other prestigious agencies.

The faculty regularly publishes their research work in peer reviewed international journal and conferences. The department frequently conducts national level and international level conferences/seminars to enhance academic and research interaction among researchers.
