FIELD PROJECT
The M.Sc Physics students are given diversified opportunities to do their project works in reputed Institutions like Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad; Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Kodaikanal; National Aerospace Limited, Bangalore; Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Trivandrum;
Based on their interest, Ms.Abiya Alex, Ms. Sofiya Jenifer, Ms.Ruthra Kaviya, Mr.Mohammed Faiz and Mr.Agilesh of 2021 batch M.Sc Physics students have done their projects in hospitals like Dharan Cancer Speciality Centre, Pvt Ltd, Salem and trained themself in handling medical instruments for treatment of cancer.
Ms. Sarah Saju, Ms.Ashna and Ms. Ashega Sherly of 2018 batch have done their project on materials science in Advanced Magnetic Group, DMRL, Hyderabad. Based on their projects, currently these students are pursuing their PhD in well reputed Institutions.
-Mr. Teiborlang K.Syntiwe of 2017 batch has done M.Sc project in National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya and came out with an interesting work on “Study of Ratchet Effect”.
There is handful of success stories where the working knowledge and experience gained during the M.Sc project has shaped the students and has thrown a light in their career choice.

Ms. Kaviya
Ms. Kaviya of 2020 batch has done her M.Sc project in the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Kodaikanal. She is now pursuing her Ph.D in Astrophysics in the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

Mr.Kevin Daniel
Mr.Kevin Daniel of 2019 batch is an Astrophysics aspirant. His thirst for Astrophysics was facilitated through his M.Sc project on “Study of properties of type III solar radio bursts and analysis of Gnevyshev peaks and Gnevyshev gaps in solar cycles 23 and 24” in the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Kodaikanal; The experience he gained through his project helped him to get an opportunity to pursue his MS degree in BORN University, Germany.

Mr.Mahitosh Ray
Mr.Mahitosh Ray of 2018 Batch has done his M.Sc project on “Study of the magnetic shear and orientation of sunspot groups arising multiple flares and statistical analysis of filament and prominences” in the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Kodaikanal. His exposure in this field inspired and aided him to pursue his Ph.D in Astrophysics in National Taiwan University, Taiwan.
IN HOUSE PROJECT

Inspired by the in-house department projects, the students Ms.Anju, Ms.Pavithra, Ms.Deepthi, Mr.Gokul and Mr.Ranjith Kumar of 2019 Batch pursue their research career (PhD programme in Physics) at Karunya. The students who do their M.Sc. project in-house are motivated for doing interdepartmental projects which resulted in patent and publications. The student Ms.S.Pavithra of 2019 Batch did her inter-departmental project work in collaboration with Bio-technology department and patented her project work and published two research articles in highly reputed Scopus indexed journals. Presently she is pursuing her PhD in the Department of Applied Physics, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences.

Mrs Anjumol Joy, Ms. Megha, Mr. Manoj Jayan and Ms. Gayathri are carrying out their fulltime research for their Ph.D degree. All the scholars are individually motivated and enthusiastically working on their respective objectives leading to the synthesis, preparation and characterization of Advanced Nano-Biomaterials and Scaffolds for various Bio-Medical Applications related to Tissue regeneration and engineering, Drug delivery, Wound healing, Bio-Sensors and Bio-Imaging, Bone cements and bone implants. The members of the group are having active research collaborations with leading researchers across Interdepartmental, State, National and International levels leading to research publications in peer reviewed journals in the specialized areas as mentioned.

The interest to do research in the field of computational physics has grabbed the attention of Mr. Prince Makarios Paul, Mr. Giftlin George and Mr. Sibin Mon, the graduated M. Sc students, to pursue for their PhD in our department. During the M. Sc project work they applied DFT calculations to identify different properties of various molecules such as graphene, nanocages, amino acids and porphyrins. Ms. Parimala Devi from PSGR Krishnammal College for women, Coimbatore and Ms. Abisha Nancy from Yadava College, Madurai have joined the computational physics research group and continue enjoying their research. The group do active research and have collaboration in and outside the university thereby publishing quality articles in well reputed international journals.

Internship

Students from different parts of the world namely, Austria, Germany, Italy, USA etc, visit our department to do research under the IAESTE program. They enjoy their stay here for a period of 3 months and carry out their research work by utilizing the facilities available. Many M.Sc students from our department have also visited other leading institutes around the world under the same program and have benefitted. Their exposure has enhanced the research interest in the particular field and has helped them to join for PhD research in various research institutes in and outside India.
