Workshop on "Robot Operating System (ROS)"

The hands-on workshop on "Robot Operating System (ROS)" was organized by Department of Robotics and Automation on 11,12th Dec 2023, to enhance students' understanding of ROS tools, including design, mapping, navigation, and hardware integration. The session was led by Mr. Kabilan KB, an Ambassador of NVIDIA, who emphasized practical knowledge and demonstrated various real-world applications, thereby facilitating a more effective comprehension of the concepts. Students worked on their own computers for a more hands-on experience and were provided with study materials to reinforce their learning.

CAIRA ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION

Department of Robotics Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences witnessed the successful inauguration of the Creative Automation & Innovative Robotics Association (CAIRA) on 12th Oct 2022. This event marked the beginning of the year's association activities, bringing together students, faculty members, and industry experts in the field of robotics and automation. The Inauguration chief guest, Chief Guest Mr. Aravind Ravichandran, COO & Director Dot World Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

Open House - Project Expo

The Project Expo held on 27th April 2023 in the Eyanthra Lab of the Department of Robotics Engineering in Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences was a remarkable event that showcased the innovative and cutting-edge projects developed by the final-year B.Tech students of Robotics and Automation. The expo aimed to inspire and educate the first-year students about the diverse applications and possibilities in the field of robotics. The event provided a unique opportunity for the final year students to exhibit their hard work, dedication, and technical expertise in creating solutions that have the potential to revolutionize various industries.

PITCH DECK EVENT

The pitch deck event was held on 24th April,2023 for robotics and Automation students at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. This event was organized by the CAIRA Association in collaboration with the Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Cell to provide an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their product ideas in a competitive yet supportive environment. Pitch Deck Event was to encourage students to develop their entrepreneurial skills, foster creativity, and instil a sense of confidence in presenting their ideas to a panel of esteemed judges. The event aimed to offer a platform where students could refine their product concepts and pitch them to potential investors and stakeholders which also provides self-confidence.

APTITUDE PLATFORM ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Aptitude Platform Orientation Programme was conducted by Mrs. Sumalatha, an experienced professional in the field of aptitude training for the III B.Tech Robotics and Automation students on 30th March 2023. The session aimed to familiarize the students with the aptitude platform and equip them with the necessary skills to excel in aptitude tests and interviews. The program provides an introduction to the importance of aptitude training for students pursuing careers in the field of Robotics and Automation. Mrs. Sumalatha, emphasized how crucial that aptitude skills are in securing job placements and excelling in competitive examinations.

Alumni Interaction – Abroad opportunities

The Alumni Interaction on “Abroad Opportunities” was conducted on 28th March 2023 to help the students to understand the various opportunities in the field of Robotics and Automation. The session was handled by Mr. Joel who is currently in Yokogawa UK Ltd.

WEBINAR ON JAVA FULL STACK DEVELOPMENT & SOFTWARE TESTING

The Webinar on Java Full Stack Development & Software Testing was conducted on 21st March 2023, by Team from Edubridge, Chennai. A webinar was conducted for students on the virtual platform to provide an overview of Java Full Stack Development and Software Testing to enhance the understanding of these essential areas in software development. The presentations by industry experts provided valuable insights into the fundamental concepts, technologies, and best practices in these areas.

Seminar on the topic “Micro-aerial robots and drones in defence”

A seminar on the topic " Micro-aerial robots and drones in defence" was organized by the Department of Robotics Engineering on 8th March 2023. The Resource Person, Mr. Vasantha Kanesh, the Former Research Associate at IIT Kanpur, gave an insight on the latest advancements in microdrone technology and its applications in the defence field.

Seminar on “Recent Trends in Robotics and Automation”

A seminar on the topic " Recent Trends in Robotics and Automation " was organized by the Department of Robotics Engineering on 3rd March 2023. The Resource Person, Mr. Nelson, CEO – Liason inc., Chennai. Mr. Nelson delivered a comprehensive presentation on the recent trends in the field of Robotics and Automation to the participants. The session focused on two key areas: Material Handling Equipment and Packaging Automation.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

Alumni, Mr. Antony Alex Pandian who was Passed on 2022 is currently working in TCS Robotics Lab,Cochin. He gave a talk about the Recent Trends in Robotics for the participants of ZESTRO' 23 – National Level Technical Symposium conducted on 3rd March 2023 by CAIRA of Department of Robotics Engineering. His speech gave an overview about current trends in Robotics area which helps students to understand what is going on the market.

Webinar - Industry Insights on Robotics and Automation

The Webinar on Industry Insights on Robotics and Automation was conducted on 8th Nov 2022, by department of Robotics and Automation. The Resource person , Mr.Ebenezer Nathaiel V ( Quality Function Engineer GreyOrange, Noida) covered some important topics which gave clarity on how robots works on Specified Environment?, Future Trends, Projections & Challenges , Scope of Robotics in Greyorange Company , Internship & Placement Opportunities in Greyorange.

SEMINAR – “Embedded and Automation behind an Automotive Industry”

The seminar on Embedded and Automation behind an Automotive Industry was held on 20th Oct 2022, organized by department of Robotics and Automation. The Resource Person Mr.C. Mahesh (CEO, ePhysics Embedded Software Technologies Pvt.Ltd, Coimbatore) explains how Embedded systems and Automation plays vital role inn Automation Industry. The students understood the insight of Embedded Systems and programming techniques.

Workshop on Robot Operating System

The hands-on workshop on “Robot Operating System” was held on 1st Aug 2022 conducted by the Rigbetel Labs team to help the students and faculty members to understand the concepts of ROS tools, designing, mapping, navigation and hardware integration. The session was handled by Mr. Shubham Nandi and Mr. Jatin Vera. More practical understanding was given by the resource person with demonstrating practical applications.

An ATAL sponsored workshop - Robo Juniors in association with the ATAL Tinkering Lab of Evangeline Matric School have been organized on 13th March 2020, Friday in Department of Robotics Engineering. Mr. David Johnson, MD, Lockey Hypersolutions, Chennai was the Chief Guest.

A seminar on the topic "Industrial Smart Sensors and Instrumentation" was organized by the Department of Robotics Engineering on 28th February 2020. The Resource Person, Mrs. D. Linda Serin, Senior Engineer, Technip Energies Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, gave an insight on the sensor, valves used in automation.

THE ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON SYSTEM MODELING AND CONTROL

The one-day Workshop on System Modeling and Control was organized on 31st August 2018. The Resource Person, Dr. S. Dharmalingam, Visiting Professor, NIT, Trichy, gave an insight on Power Plant Instrumentation and the need for Modeling and Simulation. Mr. Bartlomeij demonstrated and explained the Embedded Based Robot that can be remotely controlled via wifi.

LECTURE ON THE PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF POWER PLANT SIMULATION AND CONTROL

In the hands on session, Dr. P. Rajalakshmy , AP/IE gave a lecture on the practical aspects of Power Plant Simulation and control and a hands on training on the system identification tool lit in Matlab. Mr.L.D. VijayAnand demonstrated the concepts of system identification using LabVIEW and Mr. Varun explained and demonstrated the novel idea of embedded control of a Level process using STM Discovery Board. The workshop was attended by students and faculty from various institutions and belonging to various departments.

THE SEMINAR ON REMOTE CONTROLLED ROBOT

The seminar on Remote controlled Robot was conducted on 24th August 2018, 11.00 a.m by Mr. Bartlomeij, Intern, GDANSK University, Poland was for the I B. Tech Robotics and Automation Students to enlighten them and motivate them to make a robot. The resource person, Mr. Bartlomeij demonstrated and explained the remotely controlled Embedded Based Robot developed by him during his internship period.

The seminar was greatly beneficial to the students and they gained confidence to design and implement robotic systems.

The Department of Robotics Engineering of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences organized a Quiz Competition for School Children ROBOQUE on 13th February 2021 at 11.00 AM in the ZOOM Platform.

A SEMINAR WITH HANDS ON TRAINING ON ROBO ANALYZER-3D MODEL BASED SOFTWARE

A seminar with Hands on Training on Robo Analyzer-3D Model based software was organized by the Department of Robotics Engineering on 9th January 2021. The Resource Person, Mr. Golak Bihari Mahanta, AP/RE, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, gave an Hands on Training on Robo Analyzer-3D Model.

THE SEMINAR ON ROLE OF AUTOMATION IN PACKAGING INDUSTRY

A seminar on Role of Automation in Packaging Industry was organized by the Department of Robotics Engineering on 29th January 2020. The Resource Person, Mr. I. Karthikeyan, Project Lead, Spark Drives and Automation, Coimbatore, gave an insight on the need for Automation in Packaging and the different sensors and devices used in automation.

He also had interactive sessions with the participants and discussed about the possibilities of internships and industrial projects for the students.

The seminar was greatly beneficial to the students and they attained a practical knowledge on the application of sensors and automation in real time industrial applications.

THE SEMINAR ON INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS

The Seminar on Industrial Automation and Robotics was organized by the Department of Instrumentation Engineering on 7th February 2019. The Resource Person, Mr. Asuvathaman, Senior Engineer, Axis Global Automation Ltd., Coimbatore provided a brief insight on Industrial Automation, PLC, SCADA and Robotics.

WORKSHOP

The One Day Workshop was successfully conducted in association with AGIIT. The session started with the History of Robotics, Robot Anatomy, Classification and Application. The Hands On Session was given on ABB Robot Studio in which the participants worked on the various Robot joint movements, Interpolation and so on. It was a highly interactive session in which the students worked on the software and learnt to operate on it.
